Contemporary woman portrait exhibition

An exhibition of women portrait by the young artist Lam Shiu Chi opened in Hong-Kong on December 18. The exposition was rather big: 60 portraits painted by the artist during various years of her work are present there. The artist works in many genres and her repertoire has some landscapes and still-lives but the portrait is her favorite genre. It is the genre she totally reveals herself as an original author with unrepeatable style.
Woman’s beauty is internal topic. How evanescent the human beauty should be the painting is able to make it eternal. Now we can contemplate the women images of the various epochs and many faces have entered the world history of painting. While the art exist the women images will exist too. The years passed, so did the styles and tastes and women faces changed on the paintings too. However, the woman‘s portrait has been a symbol of tenderness, sweetness and enigma in all times not depending on the fashion. These are the qualities that in the opinion of many and the painter herself are the characteristic for the woman.
The famous women of our epoch as well as strangers are shown on the portraits by Lam Shiu Chi. The artist didn’t want to create the "Hall of Glory", on the contrary, she has been interested in uncommon and mysterious faces, not the ones easy to recognize. Even the portraits depicting celebrities show them from the unusual angle. The artist achieves not only the portrait similarity but also the exact image, character or mood rendering of the depicted model. The paintings by Lam Shiu Chi are painted in tender light paints and are very decorative. The artist uses many additional elements: the flowers, birds, thin tree wigs and flying by the winds petals neighbor on the women figures on the portraits.
Time: December 18-30, 2010 Place: Hong-Kong, Wan Fung Art Gallery

new collection from acclaimed Spanish designer Jaime Hayon for Lladró

The new collection from acclaimed Spanish designer Jaime Hayon for Lladró is an exciting and welcome release.
Whilst in keeping with Lladró’s signature delicacy, a touch of humour and cute has been added. The combination is a winning formula, which looks set to be hugely popular.
The Fantasy Collection consists of 01: Lover’s Garden, Scene 02: Raining Hearts and Toy.
The new Lladro collection adds a dreamlike element to Lladró’s signature delicacy, capturing special moments from magical worlds. Each individual piece reveals a surreal and fantastic scene, from heady, romantic love through to child like play.
image
Lover’s Garden - £1,700. This Limited Edition piece is, for me, simply delightful. The character and hearts are reminiscent of Doug Hyde’s Smile collection. This is a big box ticked as far as I am concerned.
The character of The Lover plucks a heart from his garden, which instantly turns to the brightest red from Lladró’s colour palette as a symbol of passionate love. The scene is captured in a glass dome and appears as if frozen in time.
image
Raining Hearts - £765. This shows an intimate group of toys enclosed within a glass dome, with each monochrome element featuring beautifully hand painted hearts.
Jaime Hayon’s toy theme has been a signature element of his work over the years and has been incorporated within his collection for Lladró and can be seen within this piece.  This is also a limited edition piece.
image
Toy - £135. Toy is Jaime Hayon’s signature toy that pops up throughout The Fantasy Collection. This piece has been transformed into an originally functional piece as a decorative chopstick rest.
This New Lladro edition has a guilt free sentiment that I like very much.

The art exhibition Connecting Weave, Threads, and Culture dedicated to the ecology

The art exhibition Connecting Weave, Threads, and Culture dedicated to the ecology friendly art opens on December 17 in Australia. The exhibition is organized by the local company Ngarrindjeri Eco Art Co-Op (NEAC) that has organized the promotion companies of similar art for some years. All the works shown at the exhibition were created using eco materials or eco technologies in one way or another. A considerable part of the works is worked in traditional style. It is not surprising though the traditional art is closely connected with the ecology issues. Nevertheless, the exhibition isn´t limited by such exhibits only. The authors using contemporary technologies in their works are welcomed here. For example, 65 works of art represented at the exhibition are made of the secondary raw materials. However such unusual and ineffectual material was converted into real masterpieces in the hands of the artists. The exhibition’s display turned out to be very miscellaneous –here one can find literally everything from collages to purely designer projects. Weaved pictures and textile painting are of particular interest. It is worth mentioning that the textile works became the principal part of the exhibition; however painting, graphic art, ceramics, glass sculpture and many others will be represented at the exhibition.
The exhibition was dedicated to the Christmas holidays and all exhibits present there can be purchased. At this the exhibition will have a charity character and all the profits obtained from the sales will be spent on various ecological programs.
Workshops for children and adults will be carried out during the exhibitions and the visitors will have an opportunity to speak to the authors of the works being shown.
Time: December 17-19, 2010 Place: Meningie, Australia.
